#ExecutiveSearch. Q2 is one of the most popular seasons for executive job seekers. Bonuses have been paid out (aka “Flight 331”) and Q1 financials are in. In my newest Above the Law article, I explore actionable steps to take before launching your Q2 job search. This includes making a list of companies and industries you're targeting, examining financial performance (10-Q filings for public companies), updating your resume/LinkedIn profile, and engaging in executive or leadership development. I also cite to various reports and insights, which are also important to look at when you want to dive deeper into an industry's performance.Whether you're general counsel, healthcare CEO, or private equity CFO, this article is a great resource to getting your strategy in order. #executivejobs #csuite #inhousecounsel #generalcounsel #jobsearchtips

To loyal readers of my ATL column, I apologize that I've been on a writing hiatus for a few months. This past Q1 was one of my busiest seasons for new clients and returning clients. Thank you for continuing to read my column and share my articles.

"Perform a deep-dive search on LinkedIn for insights, read the company website for news and updates, and conduct a Google search to see if the company has been in the news recently" Great article Wendi and in particular I wanted to highlight the above paragraph of your terrific article. Folks need to be pro-active and ready for the next opportunity ~ Irma

#ExecutiveJobTitles. A topic that repeatedly comes up is quantifying your experience when your job titles don't truly describe the size or impact of your leadership. Job titles can mean different things at different companies depending on the size/structure. At one company, you might be a "Deputy General Counsel," and at another company you might be a "VP of Legal." Or, in a heavily matrixed organization, you might be a "Director," yet that role is leading an entire business unit and you're on the executive leadership team for that business unit. I've seen situations where a client is the "VP of Operations" and the de facto COO, yet doesn't actually hold the COO title because there hasn't been a designated title given. This has also happened to a client who was an SVP of Engineering (and the highest tech executive in the company where there wasn't a designated CTO).The key is to quantify your experience by explaining what that title means in that specific company and further detailing your experience and leadership oversight, including the reporting structure. It's imperative to showcase the growth of your role over time -- increased responsibilities, increased team leadership, and increased budget oversight are ways to showcase it.For reference, I have an article in Above the Law that discusses this common occurrence within the in-house world: https://lnkd.in/gz-BMw_7It also provides instructive and actionable advice on how to leverage things in your resume and LinkedIn profile. Many of these strategies are applicable to non-legal executives as well.#inhousecounsel #jobtitles #generalcounsel #executivesearch #resumetips

There’s a lot of buzz about using ChatGPT for social media and marketing purposes. Here’s the problem with it: ChatGPT doesn’t produce authentic content. It’s merely scraping online results.Just yesterday, I saw a post in my feed giving tips on legal resumes. I immediately recognized content found in my published articles from Above the Law – articles that have been populating in Google search results for YEARS. There was no attribution to my articles whatsoever.Sure, ChatGPT can save you time. It can give you ideas to work with. But to take a ChatGPT response and then cast it as your own is faulty logic, particularly where it's not your own content to start with. Run the content through Copyscape and you’ll likely find the original authors. My point: you can use ChatGPT for inspiration, but don’t use it for direct publication.#chatgpt #ai #authenticity #contentmarketing #personalbranding

I wanted to wish a Happy Hanukkah to all of my Jewish clients, colleagues, and followers. I’m getting ready to host my family for a Hanukkah-themed Shabbat dinner and our annual gift exchange. The brisket is in the crockpot, the latkes are ready to go into the oven, and the table is set with kiddish cups, a fresh challah, and flowers. You may wonder why I’m lighting two menorahs – the second menorah (which was my grandmother’s) is to honor the hostages, the fallen IDF soldiers, and those who perished on October 7th and since as a result of Hamas’ terror and brutality. On this holiday, we’re supposed to feel the light coming in, and yet there’s still so much darkness that surrounds us. Since October 7th, I’ve had a deep heaviness in my heart, extreme sadness, and outrage at the rise in antisemitism against Jewish people. On this Hanukkah and upcoming Shabbat, I pray deeply for the light to protect us from the darkness. I pray for the remaining hostages to be released, I pray that the hate for Jewish people finally stops, and I pray the world finally hears our cries for help.I will never stop being a proud Jew. I will never stop speaking up for the people of Israel. Am Yisrael Chai.Photo is from last night’s candle lighting.✡️🇮🇱🕎🪬#hanukkah #amyisraelchai #jewishcommunity

#ResumeTips. Most people fail miserably at writing their resume. A reader does not want to go on a fishing expedition to find the important information. It’s not a casual night out at the Cheesecake Factory where you’re studying a 14-page menu with 250 items to choose from. You have to put the important data in front of the reader (recruiter) and make it easy for them to comprehend within seconds. In my newest Above the Law article, I explore the practical ways to make your resume more readable and skimmable for recruiters. It's hard to write about yourself because you’re looking at your career from an internalized and subjective perspective, not the 30,000-foot view of an outsider (recruiter).Keep in mind, there are 9 weeks left until 2024. Whether you're actively engaged in a job search, or thinking about making a move in Q1 of 2024, it's a good rule of thumb to always have your resume updated and current. This article is full of actionable steps you can take right now to update your resume and create ease for better readability. While this article is written for the legal audience, everything is applicable to other professions.#lawyers #executivesearch #jobsearch #recruiters
