Everything announced at PlayStation's State of Play for May 2024 (2024)

Sony kicked off its annual Days of Play celebration (now in its eighth year) on Thursday with a fast-paced 14-game showcase, showcasing a wide range of first-party and third-party games coming to both the company's consoles and PC later this year or in 2025.

If you weren't able to join us for Thursday night's festivities, here's a recap of all the trailers shown.

Unity

A year after its original announcement at PlayStation Showcase 2023, we now know more about what Concord is all about. In terms of gameplay, it's a hero shooter. In terms of story, it seems to diverge greatly from Guardians of the Galaxy. There's the smart, improvising leader, his down-to-earth female co-lead, a pure muscleman who speaks in simple declarative sentences, and a non-human support robot with amazing abilities, all of whom punctuate their over-the-top action with pithy, wry remarks.

Concord also received a gameplay trailer after the broadcast (which was not aired during State of Play):

God of War Ragnarok

The widely acclaimed 2022 action-adventure game for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 will, as long suspected, come to PC on September 19. It is part of a steady line of PlayStation exclusive prestige titles for PC that includes Death Stranding, Ghost of Tsushima, Days Gone, The Last of Us Part I and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart.

Monster Hunter World

The sequel to 2018's smash hit Monster Hunter: World will be released in 2025. Capcom has provided Sony with a big three-minute gameplay trailer that shows what players can expect from the series' return. (Spoiler alert: monsters and their hunt.)

Silent Hill 2 Remake

Hey, look, Konami is back to making video games that people love from its extensive library of award-winning IPs. Silent Hill 2, developed by Bloober Team, is coming to PlayStation 5 on October 8, 2024, and here's what people can expect

Path of Exile 2

This sequel to Grinding Gear Games' free-to-play action RPG (like Diablo) will be released in Early Access for PlayStation 5 and PC in “late 2024.” The big difference? Couch co-op for anyone kind enough to share the loot.

Astro Bot

As expected, the lovable robot sidekick that brought PlayStation fans their VR headsets in 2018 and the new DualSense controller on board in 2020 is finally getting his own show with Astro Bot. It looks like a proper platforming adventure (with a bit of racing thrown in). Slowly but surely, Team Asobi's adorable little android is working his way up to official PlayStation mascot status, especially if that adventure is half as fun as it looks.

Marvel Rivals

The only major sticking point for Concord could be Marvel Rivals, a licensed hero shooter set in that comic book universe that is currently in cloud testing on PC. For those who want to play on a console with gamepads, a closed beta for PlayStation 5 begins in July.

Alien: Rogue Incursion

This is only for PlayStation VR 2, but you know what, that's probably the best medium for what looks like an intense piece of survival horror. The Alien franchise did its best as a video game, delivering the chills and thrills of the hunted-versus-hunter combat of the original film, like 2014's Alien: Isolation. In virtual reality, the ride should be even more intense.

Dynasty Warriors: Origins

This will be the first main entry in the 25-year-old Dynasty Warriors series since 2018's Dynasty Warriors 9. Based on this trailer, fans can expect more of the same: one against hundreds and plenty of button-mashing, hacking and slashing action. Dynasty Warriors: Origins will also be coming to Windows PC and Xbox Series X.

Until Dawn (remastered)

Slightly contrary to the Silent Hill 2 remake is the remake Until Dawn, another survival horror story with jump scares and people constantly making bad decisions that trigger more jump scares. Until Dawn first came out on PlayStation 4 in 2015.

Infinity Nikki

It's hard to put this game into a specific category, as it seems to be a mix of casual RPG with lots of dress-up options and cute mascots. In any case, it's a very pretty game, and its beta test is scheduled for this fall.

Ballad of Antara

Back to the task, here is a more challenging, apparently Soulslike adventure from the TipWorks studio, coming sometime in 2025. According to the official YouTube page: “A distant land is in danger of being lost to an ancient conflict and the invasion that follows. Embark on a perilous journey, seek out massive divine creatures, and reclaim the twisted and lost foundations of the world.”

Where winds meet

Hats off if you remember the original reveal of this game during Opening Night Live at Gamescom 2022. We've heard little about it since then, but Where Winds Meet is a wuxia (martial arts and chivalry in the Chinese tradition) open-world action RPG from

colossus

Skydance's Behemoth is a VR-exclusive adventure coming later in 2024. It looks like a battle against all odds, against Hu-Jungus monsters and beasts, at least against the last, final boss, for sure.
